I am not a Clinton supporter. But...
Tue May 20, 2008 at 07:03:49 AM PDT
I'm not a Clinton supporter, and I never have been. Broke for Obama last year after reading his books. That said, I think the Clinton campaign has one good point: We've seen a disturbing level of sexism in this campaign, and we need to address it.
I don't think that sexism was the downfall of Clinton's campaign. Like Obama with racism, negative-sexism was likely mostly balanced out by positive sexism from females who identified with Hillary Clinton as a pioneer for equality. But this in no way excuses that it happened, and will likely happen again when the next female candidate makes a run for the White House.
Googlebomb: Barack Obama is not a Muslim (updated with 2nd target link)
Mon Mar 10, 2008 at 09:57:11 AM PDT
There's a post up on mydd right now about googling the Barack Obama Muslim smear. Right now, results are mixed. The top five results include the Snopes article debunking the claim, the infamous Washington Post non-rebuttal, a CNN debunking, and two outright smear sites.
We need to turn this around. Barack Obama is not, and never has been, a Muslim, and this whisper campaign needs to be stopped in its tracks.
Luckily, there is a tool we can use to fight the Barack Obama Muslim smear. It's called a googlebomb. Sometimes they're used for pranks or disonformation.
But we can use it to get out the truth. Follow below the cut for more.
My mom is a 45-year old lifelong Republican.
Tue Feb 12, 2008 at 03:30:41 AM PDT
Bless her heart, she's born and bred GOP. Voted for Reagan twice, Bush Sr, twice, cried watching the Clinton inauguration, voted for Dole in '96.
When I told her I supported Gore in 2000 she was visibly disappointed. "I can't believe you're a Democrat..." she would trail off, shaking her head in disappointment. Where had she gone wrong? That year she proudly voted for Bush, "to save lives". Her support only grew more fervent after the 9/11 attacks.
Then came the Iraq war. She was starting to have her doubts. She realized, before most Americans, that the invasion of Iraq was completely unrelated to terrorism. Yet in 2004 she voted for Bush again, because she "wasn't sure that Kerry could keep us safe".
Then came Katrina. My mom completely lost it. By the end of 2005 she couldn't support Bush anymore - so she sat out the 2006 elections, and last time I went home she couldn't stop saying "Bush isn't a Republican, he's a criminal."
Last weekend, she called me to complain about the election laws in our state, Maryland. See, we have closed primaries, and my mom is still a registered Republican. And she had been really excited to vote in the upcoming primaries...
...for Barack Obama.
Rasmussen: Clinton 46 / Obama 40
Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 08:09:06 AM PDT
Rasmussen joins every other poll showing strong Obama momentum in the last hours before Super Tuesday voting begins, with a 5-point swing towards Obama from yesterday's rolling average. This is the highest Obama has ever registered in this poll.
Additionally, Rasmussen Markets now has both Clinton and Obama shares trading at approximately 50 each.
Full numbers for both parties after the jump.
Richardson DOES NOT endorse!
Sun Feb 03, 2008 at 05:54:19 PM PDT
Updatier update: Okay, I succumb to the will of the horde. Do WHATEVER YOU WANT with this diary. I recommend some LOLcandidates.
Update: Please DO NOT rec this diary. The rec list is for news and stories, not anti-news. Just let this diary scroll down along with the false "endorsement" diaries and the message will get through fine. Thanks!
A few diaries are headlining a Richardson endorsement of Clinton. This is based on an apparently mistaken NPR report, and has been debunked by Politico.
I'll delete this diary as soon as the misleading diaries disappear off the side of the page.
Politico debunking below the cut.
BREAKING: Powerful Quake Hits Indonesia Coast, 2nd Tsumani Possible
Mon Mar 28, 2005 at 11:14:39 AM PDT
CNN article.
Evacuations are underway after a 8.2 magnitude quake hit the coast. There are reprts of panic and traffic accidents as residents scramble for higher elevations away from the coast, fearing another tsumani.
There's very little we can do sitting in front of our computers right now except hope that casualties are kept to a minimum. I'll post links to relief organizations as I find them.
Chalabi to be Arrested (Update: OR IS HE?)
Sat Jan 22, 2005 at 08:42:37 AM PDT
IMPORTANT UPDATE: CNN
CLAIMS REPORTS OF IMMINENT ARREST ARE DISPUTED; MAY BE ELECTION PLOY . Well, this just keep getting more and more interesting. On the upside, the story IS getting more attention. Keep up on the media to discuss the connections between Chalabi, Bush, Iran, and profiterring. This might be the beginning of an extremely interesting story...Make no doubt, Chalabi deserves to be arrested for his crimes. But we all know how unfashionable accountability is right now...Do not let this story go. Chalabi is the epitome of everything that is wrong with this war.
A whole bunch of things being put together on the flip...
Dean for DNC Video
Wed Jan 19, 2005 at 02:59:01 PM PDT
I made
this video based on the promo for "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". It's currently in Flash and a little more than 1MB, with no loading screen (just wait a few seconds for it to load).
It's not polished yet, but I wanted to get feedback from people who might actually know media or have used Flash before (this is my first time attempting anything substantial). On the upside, because it's Flash, changes are easy to make.
Go hug someone
Wed Nov 03, 2004 at 02:48:41 AM PDT
Call me a defeatist, fine. i don't care. Fact is, we lost the popular vote. We've lost Ohio barring any major developments or proof of fraud (yes, I've already seen everything in the diaries and I'm not convinced). I will follow John Kerry in whatever he decides to do, but I fully expect to hear a concession speech later this morning.
WIN THE POLULAR VOTE
Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 03:01:01 PM PDT
With a Kerry win looking increasingly likely, it is now VITAL that we secure the popular vote! Kerry's going to need all the legitimacy he can muster if he's going to successfully govern a divided nation, and that means having more votes than Bush. Nice as it would be to give Bush a taste of his own medicine, we cant afford it.
Safe-staters MUST get out to the polls today. Texans, Californians, Illinoisians, Kentuckians - every Dem must get to the polls and stand in line and get their vote counted. it might not win elecotral votes, but it will win legitimacy for our man. Call your neighbors, your frineds, your family, and Demo voter who thinks that they don't matter because of the electoral college and GET THEM TO THE POLLS.
Early Senate projections are bleak, with the GOP gaining a seat or two, and Zogby thinks we'll lose the popular vote. Now, the pollsters have been wrong about a lot of things, but this is a risk we can't afford to take. Do not let Kerry's presiency be ruined today. Use today's news to energize Dems and take back our country.
Today
Mon Nov 01, 2004 at 11:28:50 PM PDT
Today we face our enemy, the villians who took over our country four years ago. They are powerful. They are ruthless. They will stop at nothing to win. They have no honor, no decency, no respect for the American people, no honor for the fallen, no regard for the truth. They cling to their radical neoconservatice idealogy even as the world spins out of their control. They seek to divide us, to demoralize us, to make us submit to their rule. They know but one language, and that is power. They have but one creed, and it is control. Like leeches they cling to our country, sapping us of hope and empowerment, poisoning the once proud American spirit with corruption, greed, hatred and fear. They will know no reason nor moderation.

Media Spin on OBL Tape
Fri Oct 29, 2004 at 05:20:49 PM PDT
Rundown of reaction from various mainstream media outlets to the tape. Not bad, the media is at least isn't overtly pandering to Bush yet (with the exceptions of Fox and Drudge). Enjoy!
Summaries of Fox, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and Drudge are below and will be updated as coverage progresses.
New Kerry Ad - "Your Hands"
Thu Oct 28, 2004 at 03:34:14 PM PDT
It isn't diaried yet, so...
Looks like this is it - the last ad. My opinion: awesome. Empowering. Inspiring. This is the kind of ad I imagined Dean running in his closing campaign. I almost expect John to remind us that "You have the power, you have the power!"
Excellent framing of the issues, blingingly positive, and effetive in setting out the Kerry agenda of (1) Fixing Iraq (2) Good job creation (3) health care (4) stem cell/scientific research (5) reducing the federal deficit (6) energy independence. They all work together, reinforce each other, deliver a message of hope without fear, and are accompanyed with fantastic visuals. Kudos to the Kerry team for an ad campaign well run - now let's seal the deal.
LIE GIRLS - Hot GOP Action - Video and Audio!!!
Mon Oct 25, 2004 at 05:14:24 PM PDT
Andrew Sullivan was the last person I expected to find
this gem.
"Flag-waving, bible-thumping babes are waiting to help you spread freedom - right now."
This is the best video I've seen all election season. And...so hot...I think I may just have to wander over to some undisclosed location for a bit...phew...
"Hey! You forgot Poland..."
This Diary has Already Been Diaried
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 06:59:33 PM PDT
This diary has already been diaried. Everyone is aware of this diary and thus it is unneccacery to post it. Any comments to the already diaroed diary will be considered trollful and endemic to the dKos cause. This should really be in the open thread. This diary is taking up space on the board and detracting from other, more important diaries.
Foreign Despots for Bush
Mon Oct 18, 2004 at 06:21:04 PM PDT
Remember how the Bush campaign ridiculed Kerry when it was suggested that Kerry had the backing of international leaders? And remember how he accused Kerry of pandering to countries like
Russia?
CNN: Putin urges voters to back Bush
Putin, speaking Central Asian Cooperation Organization summit in Tajikistan Monday, made his most overt comments of support so far for the re-election of Bush for a second term.
C-SPAN NOW - THE DRAFT
Tue Oct 05, 2004 at 03:43:42 PM PDT
Democrats are going to town over the draft issue.
So many good quotes:
"There IS a secret plan to bring back the draft."
"This is a rich man's war and a poor man's fight."
"We don't have enough soldiers to win the peace."
"Mr. President, what is your plan to win the peace? You have none."
"Here's how you'll know: They'll take away the government college money. The rich kids parents will take care of them, but the poor kids will have to fight."
